Phenolic spacer part II
 

On my last thread there was a suggestion to paint the carb white. This car is for fun not for show so I am ok with that however a question comes to mind. I understand how this makes a difference in direct sunlight but how effective would it be under the hood.

I think I understand what your trying to achieve. That's why I suggested the foam beer cooler idea. Simple to do and costs nothing. At 20 degrees cooler (in my case) my feeling is the metal carb will be just cool enough to function properly. Painting the carb might be a real chore. If you want to paint it would an aluminum heat reflective product be better? Back in the late 60s speed shops were selling "Cool Cans" which amounted to a tin can with copper tubing coiled inside. You filled the can with ice and went racin. Keep us posted.

I read that too and thought that the author of that post was just trying to be funny. AFAIK the white trick only works in direct light. Radiant heat is different from heat from the sun and that be what your dealing with in a dark hooded area. So a spacer may help.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking. I now have the insulator and heat shield. I just need hot weather to try it out.

When I competed in NMRA F Modified production, in the early 70s I would fill the cool can with dry ice. When the temps in southern Ohio would hit the mid 90s, I pour a little alcohol over the dry ice. Now that was COLD!
