GAV Difficult to Turn

Is there anyway of freeing up the GAV on a Zenith carburetor. I put a different carb on my car and the GAV is very difficult to turn. Searched this forum but couldn't find much. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Re: GAV Difficult to Turn

The most likely problem is the point where the GAV brass needle valve goes into the brass collar that in turn screws into the angled opening of the carb. The needle valve can be backed all the way out, and you can remove the collar unit from the carb. You will see that on the tip of the collar there is a steel spring clip that supplies tension to the needle valve. First, I would shine up the shaft of the needle valve where it goes into the collar. I would also check the collar for dirt.

Another thing you could check is the rubber bushings on the hangars under the gas tank. Maybe they are sticky or maybe even the GAV rod is bent.

Oem gav preferred.
Also have used a scratch awl to expand the jet end
Of the housing on replacements and leave the ring clamp
In place. Burnish the stem to free it up

Thanks guys. I tried the easy thing first and it did the trick. I took the needle out and cleaned the threads on a fine wire wheel and it turns pretty easy now. Thanks again.

What happens when you pull the choke?
Does it pull out easy and spring back easy?
If this is not the case then your GAV rod is rubbing on the firewall, this is caused by your engine not sitting level. (look at your motor mounts)

Lube the needle and the rubber grommet up on the choke rod first. A drop of 600 would do nicely.

I know the problem is solved. As a side note , I’ve seen repo gav’s that were machined out of round.
