Best 40 Ford Carb
 

I have a stock 40 Ford woody and I was debating whether to rebuild the stock Ford carb (original) or go to a rebuilt Stromberg 97. I have some of those cores laying around. Would the 97 be a better running carb?

Have Charlie Schwendler build your original (91-99) carb. He is without question THE guy for this service.
He posts here on the barn as CharlieNY.

Really super guy, great ethics and he actually tests the unit prior to shipping. You will not regret going with him :)

My 40 has a 21-29 Model 94 on it now. Guess that's not the original. Guess I need to look for a 91-99. Maybe he would take mine on trade?? I sent him a message. Thanks guys!

Charlie may very well have a carb. for you. The one you have is 1942 Ford.

I have numerous 91-99 if need be.

There is a rebuilt bare 91-99 center housing only on E Bay. Can this be substituted for my 21-29 center housing thereby retaining all the other parts???

Thing is...there's rebuilt, then there's properly rebuilt. Get Charlie to do yours, don't buy the eBay thing.

I at least one 91-99 in a box somewhere. I have no plans of owning a 40 or going to ship it to you free. But i'm not using it either, so if you want it okay. It would need to be rebuilt regardless.

Decided to do it myself with a correct bowl for my 40. I am no beginner at rebuilding various carbs over the years. That way I know what I have. Thanks all!

Well, someone has to disagree! I had my fill with 94 carbs. Years ago I went to a 48 on my sedan and never went back. Always starts, power valve problems are gone, and it runs great.

I also vote for the 97. Power valves do not fail. You can take the top of the carb of to set the float easily and exactly.

charlie NY rebuilt my big bore 94 carburetor this winter. it has a bigger throttle shaft than the smaller 94's. shaft and carb body were worn, he machined a new shaft. he also put in the correct downtubes. just got it back on the road and its like a new engine. runs great, thanks charlie.

Probably a Y block carb.

It's the 94 type carb used on '55 and '56 fords with a 272 Y-Block V8. It had larger throttle bores and venturi's were 1 1/16". Was a 2110 model.
