window garnish removal?

Wondered how you guys go about removing the door window garnish on the late 30's Fords? I understand there are clips that hold them in place but I've been unable to find any diagrams showing how they're removed or installed. Appreciate any advice you'd be willing to provide. Thanks!

Don't know about the late 30's versions. We'll bump this up for smarter folk to comment.

Let me ask again, Do you just pry the door window garnish away from the door when removing it from a 39 Ford and pop it back in after replacing door glass? I don't see any screws to be removed? Sure don't want to damage the molding. Thanks!

I've never seen a garnish of that relative vintage that does not have screws holding it on. Look again CAREFULLY! They ought to be there. Let us know what you find. DD

2xV8Coopman. Unless some earlier customization were done, there have to be screws that hold those frames in the door.

This is on a 39 Standard Coupe. Unless someone filled the screw heads and holes painted them while attached to the door they're smooth? Thanks for the pictures!

Early 39 standard ( and deluxe ) front window surrounds had no provision for screws.
Later 39 deluxe ones re-introduced the screws ( like 37 and 38 )
Do as Ken says and they will come off.

39 5 window Deluxe, got two screws in top edge and 5 clips spaced around the garnish. Found them troublesome to remove however with a bit of perseverance and a bit of skin it can be done

Are the clips along the bottom of the garnish like the clip along the top? I have the top and sides loose, but cannot budge the ones across the bottom. What am I doing wrong?
Thank for your response. 1939 Deluxe Coupe.

Get the top out and you may need to pull upward to get the bottom to come loose. It may be hung up on the bottom lip of the window opening.

Glad you got it out. In case anyone else is reading this for reference, on my '47 the garnish screws go in through the door jamb/door frame into the garnish molding, so be sure to check the edge of the door for screws also.

And when you put it back the bottom goes in first. Try it the other way and you can break the glass. Don't ask me how I know.

DD,I once had a 39 dlx tudor (in 1962 ,my second car) and it had clips that secured the side garnish moldings front and back. Some had broken so went to Ford Obsolete on Florence Ave in Los Angeles at the time and he had none.Sheldon
