Throttle rod length? Just got a new set of control rods for 1930 coupe. The old ones were bent up a lot. The spark rod (17") and carb rod (10.5") went on great; but the 6" throttle rod will not fit without bending it a lot - the distance is only 4.5" between the connections. I would prefer not to bend the rod. I know that I can cut it and get a spacer to shorten the rod. Just wondering if this is normal. Most of the pictures that I looked at online show the rod not being bent.

Re: Throttle rod length? I had the exact same problem. Drove me nuts. Turns out that the accelerator assembly that mounts between the engine and firewall was at fault. Even when I took it off, it looked o.k. But upon close inspection, the pivot shaft that runs between the two "Bearings" on the accelerator assembly was bent forward. Placing a straight edge along the shaft made it obvious. I put it in a vise and with a couple taps of a hammer, straightened it right out. The new throttle linkage then fit perfectly between the carb and accelerator assembly.

Re: Throttle rod length? Correct they do get bent!! Cold bend easy ,no heat

Re: Throttle rod length? thanks for the info. I will make the adjustment.

Re: Throttle rod length? It is easy to bend these with a box wrench... wrapped around the end... just use the wrench as a lever and they will bend relatively easily.

Re: Throttle rod length? It all worked out great. Just what I wanted. Thanks.

Re: Throttle rod length? had a similar issue caused by incorrect spark rod length , an issue with some of the spark rods from vendors: the correct ('30-31) collapsed length is greater than 17" (forgot exact size , 17 5/16? like from Brattons ) which should be verified with them before purchase. Shorter ones may require rotating the steering column housing out of position changing the position of the throttle rod.

Re: Throttle rod length? What's the point of worrying about that/ There are no rods available anywhere near the right lengths for ANY of them.
