48 f1 Trans for a 34 will it work ?

I have the opportunity to get a 1948 Ford f1 3 speed transmission very reasonable, will this trans. fit up to a 1934 Ford sedan? a stock car, or do I have to take it all apart and change out the gears installing them in the 34 case, looking to get the syncro for my Ford sedan, also my 34 jumps out of 2nd gear. thanks in advance for your input ..:)

Sorry, for a start the F1 is open drive, whereas the 34 has a torque tube [enclosed driveshaft] Both trannies have synchro on 2nd and top gears only, but the parts will not interchange. Why not rebuild what you have? Mac VP will have all you require.

The 39 was a easy swap but you will have to make your own unless you can find one.
Best get a 39 to 48 and use the guts and put in the 48 or 34 case. The key is use the shifter from the 48 floor shift. 46 -48 side shift are easy to find.

Re: 48 f1 Trans for a 34 will it work ?

The only major difference on the later post war truck transmissions through 1950 and the 1939 transmission is the rear housing and the main output shaft. The rest of the parts are same as the 1939 passenger or commercial car transmission. The main shafts and rear bearing housings were used for some time prior to 1939 so those parts are out there. If the 1934 transmission still has the original angle back shift tower then it would have to be modified to work with the straight up shift tower and the 91A shift fork to work with the later gears installed. I've heard of folks successfully modifying an old style shift tower to work but I've not seen what was done to get it that way. If the later transmission is installed or the tower is changed, the shifter will be in a different location so the floor plate has to be modified for that.

Its funny how some times swap works and like mine jumps out and have to do it again.
All Tolerances add up. Things to check is snap ring location or rear bearing, thick gasket, no movement of snap ring in housing ,tight uj.
The problem is under power the cluster makes 2nd to move forward, when you let off cluster push's 2nd to rear and drop out of gear.
Out of case rear shaft with uj tight make sure it tight no movement.
