Catch can?
 

Is anyone using a catch can set up on their Flathead?
When I take a ride in my car and come to a stop, there's smoke coming out from the oil pan vent. I'm guessing it's blow by? I was wondering if there's a way to run that vent through a catch can set up to clean up that smoke. I know they're for a pcv system, but I'm asking to see if they could be used without.
I'm told I shouldn't be running a pcv set up because I have a blower and I'd be putting that dirty air back into the motor.
Any thoughts?!

All PCV systems put "that dirty air" back into the engine. It's just fumes, no 'real dirt'. If the blowby under load is more than the PCV valve can handle, it just travels back up the fresh air tube into the air cleaner. I'll bet new Corvettes, Mustangs, Dodges, etc. with blowers use PCV valves.

Easiest thing for you is to replace the chrome lid on your air cleaner assembly with a deepdish frying pan a bit bigger than the filter element. Put a 5/8" or 3/4" hose barb on the side of the pan and run a hose from the vent to the barb. The crankcase fumes will be entrained in the intake airflow. Jack E/NJ

"that dirty air" just came out of your engine less than a second before going back in with PCV.

Usually "dirty air" coming out of the vent is a sure sign of a badly worn engine with ring and valve guide problems. A compression test on all cylinders will confirm if you are ready for an overhaul.
