34 ashtray Philco Radio Just installed the radio in my original 34. Hanger bolts are thru the firewall dimples where they should be. Question now is what to do about the speedometer cable. Had to take it loose to get the radio in and now it seems anyway you rout it, it will be to short and also come into the speedometer at a sharp angle. How is this fixed, longer speedometer cable and housing, cable routed above the radio and radio tightened against it or something I was to dumb to notice?

Re: 34 ashtray Philco Radio Assuming your speedometer cable and housing is original to the car, its length should accommodate the radio chassis. In my '34 Fordor, the cable is routed over the top of the radio chassis and then down the left side of the chassis....

Re: 34 ashtray Philco Radio I thought about doing that but did not want to compress the speedometer cable housing.

Re: 34 ashtray Philco Radio Is it possible you have the radio chassis snugged up too tight? I used the mounting bolts supplied by Roy Nacewicz. When finished with the installation, the length of the bolts exposed/sticking through the firewall measures 1-1/8 inch. The bolts are long to give you some wiggle room....

Re: 34 ashtray Philco Radio I am going to loosen my radio and see if the cable will fit, if not will use the replacement 32-39 70" assy.

Re: 34 ashtray Philco Radio Make sure the speedometer cable housing runs over the top of the radio chassis and between the two radio chassis mounting bolts....

Re: 34 ashtray Philco Radio Pete, I had to swap that radio for another one I have that has a longer antenna lead and when I did, I routed the speedometer cable above the radio and it works fine. Thanks for your help.
