37 gas tank removal
 

Ok guys the thread on gas tank removal was right on. two hours later we got the tank to clear the frame, on the pass side, But I can't get the tank out, as the filler tube, which is fixed, binds, so I am unable to slide the tank far enough to the passenger side to get the flange on the gas tank on the drivers side to clear the frame. Any comments?

Have you turned the tank to the rear? maybe?

R U sure the filler neck doenst come off. Mine's a '35 and I was able to remove mine. it has a male threaded sleeve on the neck that fastens it to a female thread on / in the tank.

Sounds like you may have an early tank with the threaded sleeve on the neck. The sleeve has to be unscrewed to release the neck before the tank can come out.

It will come out and go in. I changed mine back during the summer, its the passenger side that has to come out first and the drivers side needs to be slightly elevated and you may need a little force to get bas that last 1/8 in on the flange, passenger side.

The neck IS threaded, now to unscrew it......

Soak those threads with a good penetrating oil for 2-3 days. If the collar has a series of holes around the end opposite to threads, use a spanner wrench of the correct size to remove. If no holes, use a good strap wrench, maybe one with a chain that can be locked tightly around the collar. https://www.zoro.com/irwin-vise-grip...0r/i/G0464222/ Good luck.

Yes, that filler tube must come off before you can get the tank off. It took months of PB blaster for me. Finally come off no problem. And removing the tank was a breeze after that.

Well guess what, the boys were right again. soaked the neck for a few days and off it came. i cant wait to enjoy this car. its a club cabriolet. ma.ny thanks
