Door hinges

I was wondering if I could press the pins out with 12 ton press? Anybody tried removing the hinges from the door and push out the pins this way?Its a 1930 model A Roadster.

On my sport coupe, I took the screws out of the door jamb and painted them with the door.

Re: Door hinges

If the pins are anything like a 28/29, they are only held in by a bit of knurling .

And maybe after 85 years some rust too.

A vice would push them out let alone a 12 ton press.

A shot of a good penetrating oil will make the job a lot easier.

What wrong with using a hinge pin removal tool?
Mine works great

If I use a hinge pin tool should I remove the hinges from the door? Is this the best way so I don't do in the paint job? Stainless steel pins recommended?

Re: Door hinges

Use a socket that fits over the pin head, use another that just a bit smaller than the pin itself, use an old style c clamp, bring the clamp together over door pins, bam" . Bear down on the C clamp and a couple turns, “bam” that pin will be out Lickity split.
Thanks to Gary Formals, whidbey A’s.

Re: Door hinges

cut out a hole in heavy card board to fit over the hinge and use the tool shown in post 5. There may be some slight paint damage to the top of the hinge barrel from the tool bearing so tape those edges as best as possible. use some penetrating oil to soak 1st if desired.
