1949-50-51 Ford Wagon Looking to know what frame fits a 49-50-51 Ford Woody. Have a chance to acquire a 49-50 or a 51 Woody body(no frame). Anyone have a frame or know what else fits this style Ford wagon?:)

The above picture shows the Frame for an Australian 1951 Ford Deluxe Coupe Utility. To answer your Question, the original Sales Brochure lists the following in the Specifications. "DOUBLE DROP FRAME: box section side rails and 5 cross members. Convertible Club Coupe and Station Wagon Frames specially reinforced". I take it that these two body styles have a central "X" member, like the Australian Ute. See above picture showing the "X" member. Hope that this helps. |
Re: 1949-50-51 Ford Wagon Some early 49s may have had the x frame but I think later ones were the same as passenger. 49-50 may be different than 51 at least the trans crosmember is.

Re: 1949-50-51 Ford Wagon There should be a stock frame around. Lots of old fordor 49-51 cars sitting around and the car frame and the woody frame are the same. Might get lucky and even get a pink slip in the deal.

Re: 1949-50-51 Ford Wagon There are usually some parts / thrashed shoebox woodies on craigslist, check the woodie shops in southern Cal. For example:

Re: 1949-50-51 Ford Wagon Not sure about the Ford's but the Mercury parts book shows the rear cross member
for the SW is different. Bob |

Re: 1949-50-51 Ford Wagon In the book Famous Ford Woodies, by Lorin Sorensen it states that the "Station wagon chassis had a "slightly modifies frame", but it doesn't go into detail what the modification was. Another bit of trivia on the Iron Mountain plant is that when Ford shut down the plant on December 5th, 1951, they told all the townspeople that they could purchase left over hard rock maple Woodie parts for one dollar a truckload!
