CRS disease: What size bolt for the outer tourque tube connector 1 Attachment(s)
Good Morning Fellas:
I've got too many irons in the fire right now, and can't remember what size bolt goes with the torque tube connector? Is it drilled for safety wire or cotter pin? Thanks, |
Re: CRS disease: What size bolt for the outer tourque tube connector 7/16 fine thread. Correct bolt have a funny head so they don't spin when you tigten the nut.

Re: CRS disease: What size bolt for the outer tourque tube connector Also you want a nut that uaes a 5/8 wrench and not 11/16 because of clearance. I think van pelt has the hardware. I just go to the junk drawer full of transmision stuff and havent had to buy any

Re: CRS disease: What size bolt for the outer tourque tube connector I dont have a picture , would have to look for one. Its about 1-1/2 long with a L shaped head. You can use a regular bolt but its kind of a hassle if the body is on the car . Plus the regular hex head you have to grind one side to slip it in if the rear mount is on the transmission

Re: CRS disease: What size bolt for the outer tourque tube connector Might be some talking at cross purposes here. If you're talking about the two bolts and nuts that hold the two halves of the clamshell together they're 7-16 fine thread with 5/8 af head on the bolt and the nut. Standard type bolt heads. Not sure if cross drilled for castle nuts or just use a spring washer and a standard (but 5/8 af nut).
If (as some replied have assumed) you're talking about the 4 special bolts that hold the clamshell to the trans, they are as described above, special heads on the earlier ones, but just standard bolts on later (my 41pu for example). These are cross drilled for castle nuts, which must be 5/8 af as well. Mart. |
Re: CRS disease: What size bolt for the outer tourque tube connector I think the 42 to 48 or maybe just 46 to 48 cars had the lock nut without a cotter pin. 42 to 52 pickups were open drive

Yes, I'm talking about the two bolts on the side that clamp the outer collar together and not the L shaped ones to mount both pieces to the rubber ring like on a '32. Tim |
Re: CRS disease: What size bolt for the outer tourque tube connector Ah! As we're talking those bolts, can anyone advise whether the bolts go in the same way around, or one up, one down so to speak. My 41pu only has one bolt, with the bolt pointing up and the nut on top - should the other one go in similar??
Sorry for the hijack but Tim might also want to know! Mart. |

Re: CRS disease: What size bolt for the outer tourque tube connector Don't know what year you are working on, but on a 38, the bolts that holds the 2 pieces together, the one on the drivers side is a special bolt, the top of it clamps and holds the emergency brake cable
