My new Y-block 2 Attachment(s)
Merry Christmas folks! Got my New engine installed over the holiday weekend. Haven't fired it yet but IMHO it looks fantastic nestled in the bay. What do you think? 304 ci, 304 hp, 330 tq. 11" clutch with a T5.

Re: My new Y-block Looks like a fun ride.
Tell me - Did you use a hoist to install the engine or just your brute strength as in the holding the engine above your head picture ? :p Oldmics |
Re: My new Y-block That's my son-in-law and he IS a brute!! However it's hanging from a fork lift! Just a fun pic I thought I'd share.

Re: My new Y-block Looks great Rowen ! Probably easier to tune than the two teapots too. Lol.

Re: My new Y-block Thanks Sal. Since the sale of those fell through I have decided to keep em and someday put em on. At least to see how she runs with em. Gotta get her up n runnin first as is.

Re: My new Y-block 1 Attachment(s)
LOOKS GOOD!
Can you describe the build... 292? Who makes those headers? They look good also. Why green? What year/series 8V do you have? I have not been following. Your Son-In-Law looks exactly like my brother... |
Re: My new Y-block Quote:
OK Rowen. I assumed you sold the Holley 4000's since I saw the add marked sold. KULTULZ : The carbs Rowe has are two 1956 Ford Holley 4000 teapots (single 4V carbs) that I restored and set up for a dual 4 barrel engine. Sal |
Re: My new Y-block Beautiful, Rowen

Re: My new Y-block 2 Attachment(s)
KULTULZ, it's a date Code 1957 312 sleeved down to a stock 292 bore. stock 312 crank and rods. 10.5:1 forged domed probe (Mummert) pistons. Clay Smith 292S cam. Mummert 4v dual plane aluminum intake with a edelbrock 600. I bought the engine as a abandoned project a couple years ago. The headers are REX performance. As close to a "true" header that I could find. They are a very tight fit but went in mounted without scratching anything. John Beck in Chico did all the machining and assembly. This car ought to ROCK!! It's my retirement gift to myself. Thanks Jim. Your place will one of my first stops when I get her on the road. And you Sal are not off the hook yet,...as I said, those WILL go on in the future and I will be giving you a holler when it happens.

Re: My new Y-block Oh, and the green....my family will tell you I'm a quarter bubble off plumb so...just because.....is the best I got.

Re: My new Y-block 330 tq. T-5. You driving. Might find some spare axles now. Go a whole 1/2 bubble off, like me.
I’m really liking the whole deal, especially the paint on the motor. |
Re: My new Y-block Happy to still be on the hook Rowen. Great job !

Re: My new Y-block Quote:
Allow me to go off-topic ... ... again and ask since you are so familiar with the 8V setups. I am a$$-u-me(ing) all of these were dual plane intakes (for street use). Did you ever come across any progressive linkage designs? It seems to me that it would make a set much more street-able and hopefully cut down on fuel usage. Wondering In WV... |
Re: My new Y-block Kultulz
This may not be a direct comparison, as mine are on a flathead. I have 2 Holley 1161-2 carbs on my 290 CI flathead. They are linked directly and are run on a single plane manifold, They are really good as far as performance & mileage, with as much as 20+ MPG. I do have an Overdrive, car is a 32 Tudor sedan. Best Jim |
Re: My new Y-block KULTULZ,
Ford did it with direct linkage (both open at the same time) at first in '56 and '57 with dual plane manifolds. Later on (427's) they did it progressive with dual plane manifolds. I guess you can assume either works. Also the single plane setup Kanuna mentioned with direct linkage seems to work very well. If I had a preference, I would say direct linkage may offer better air/fuel distribution overall. Just my thoughts. Sal |
Re: My new Y-block Quote:
No problem with a single plane intake in cold weather? That's great! Quote:
What I am trying to get at is street-ability using multi-carbs on the street (other than hot Saturday Night ;) ). Let's use the 57 312 8V 270HP for instance. This was released for the street (the 285HP meant for track use). Cruising would have been much easier and cheaper (IMO) with only the primaries of the primary carb being used and the secondary carb primaries cutting in wherever you adjust it. The secondaries of both carbs would come in on demand. I am just surprised that no one has designed a retro kit. |
Re: My new Y-block Has anyone ever put a pusher fan on a 55? If so, how do you like it? A part number?? There are many on the internet, too many. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: My new Y-block Quote:
The pusher style will impede air flow through the radiator. You need one to pull with a full fan shroud (MARK VIII - TAURUS take-off) (IMO). Plenty of info on the net describing retro-fits. Your new install getting hot? |
