How much Marvel Mystery Oil per tank? Seems like a lot of people recommend Marvel Mystery Oil but never say at what concentration.
So how much do you use? |
Re: How much Marvel Mystery Oil per tank? 4oz to ten gallons, more or less

I put in 8oz at every fill up, I put in an equal amount into the gas tank also.
Correction: I use a 4 oz. specimen cup, don't know where the 8 oz. came from. Note: Rinse cup "real good" before re-use :) |

I got sold on MMO years ago, it does really help with today's dry gasoline. I don't think anything over 4 oz. per ten gallons will hurt a thing. I buy it in gallon jugs at WalMart, Farm and Fleet, Farm King, whoever has it on sale lasts all season.Good stuff. |
Re: How much Marvel Mystery Oil per tank? Snake oil !

Re: How much Marvel Mystery Oil per tank? Its best and highest purpose in my mind is to help prevent valves, lifters, and rings &c. from sticking due to soured or varnished fuel, sludge buildup etc. This is a real problem with collector cars and vintage iron that oftentimes sits for long periods. 4oz. Per 10 gallons in the fuel.

Re: How much Marvel Mystery Oil per tank? I like it for freeing stuck engines. It's a good all around cleaner and lubricant, especially for things that have not been well lubricated and are out in the weather. It's a good upper cyl. lube. I have no problem with adding it to gas. However, I don't think it should be used in the oil, except on the last day or two before an oil change. MMO is basically a solvent for penetrating and cleaning things, not a lubricant. Yeah yeah I know I said it was a good lubricant for rusty stuff, not for engines running at 2500 rpm.

Or just add ATF to the tank in about the same mixture works the same if not better Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: How much Marvel Mystery Oil per tank? 1/2 oz per gal or 1 oz per 2 gal- which ever comes out less!

Re: How much Marvel Mystery Oil per tank? Why not just run it on straight MMO? :p

Re: How much Marvel Mystery Oil per tank? It’s a marvelous mystery how it works.
I know a guy that says it makes him regular so it must be good. It sure smells good. |

It seems that GM was tired of bad fuels leaving varnish deposits in the carbs, and then the cars being blamed for it. They wanted something that could be added to the fuel to keep the varnish from building up, and it had to burn 'smoke free'. MMO was born. Later on they found out that MMO had a great side effect; it was very good as an upper cylinder lubricant too. Much later they started recommending that you use it in your engine oil...but its unclear why. MMO has a unique ability to creep into very small spaces, much like the way Kroil does for penetrating and dissolving rust. This information was told to me in the pre-internet days by a MMO senior Marketing executive when I was researching inverse oilers. I use MMO in the fuel, and I've done so for decades. I use the product label as a guide: 4 oz MMO per 10 gallons fuel. |
Re: How much Marvel Mystery Oil per tank? The characteristic odor is Wintergreen oil, a very good penetrant. I knew a clock repair guy who used Mobil 1 mixed with MMO "just enough to make it pink" as clock oil. Not a big believer in Mechanic In A Can stuff generally speaking, but for certain applications it definitely has its place.

Re: How much Marvel Mystery Oil per tank? I HAVE BEEN USING MMO SINCE 1960 IN MY OLD FORDS AND SOME OTHER BRANDS ON OCCASION. Works for me never experienced any sticking valves. My friend up the street from me, had a 9n tractor with sticking valves, he towed it to my work shop. After checking it over and finding stuck valves in two cylinders, I applied a liberal amount of MMO in the spark plug holes, put the rest in his gas tank and shortly thereafter the thing ran like it was supposed to. He is now a believer, comes with no draw backs as far as I'm
concerned. |
Re: How much Marvel Mystery Oil per tank? We have BIG problems with ethanol in the fuel desolving varnish in the tank and sticking up the valves
MMO or ATF really helps with this We can not get ethanol free fuel Chris W. |
Re: How much Marvel Mystery Oil per tank? MMO and ATF look the same but are chemically different. How many times has MMO been accused of making a profit by rebottling ATF and adding wintergreen to cover the smell of it? MMO is a solvent while ATF is a lubricant. MMO was developed in 1923, ATF hit the market in 1937 with Buick's automatic Transmission. MMO and ATF will do pretty much the same jobs and about equally well in your upper cylinder. MMO just smells better!

Re: How much Marvel Mystery Oil per tank? Wintergreen is a component of what makes MMO do what it does, keep in mind it's not used as a perfume, although it has a pleasant odor. ATF isn't designed for use as a fuel additive, maybe it's OK, but then, maybe it isn't.

Re: How much Marvel Mystery Oil per tank? I use MMO in my chainsaw, edger, and weed eater. I’ve never used it in my A.
