Ford woodie top material installation
 

All,
I am in the process of rebuilding the wood top and installing new fabric on my 41. The car currently has no top material or rain gutters but I have a good pair of gutters that were pulled off a parts woody in 1970 and have been hanging on the wall since. Does the fabric nail on and then the gutter nail over it ? If so ,do I run a bead of sealer at the top of the gutter ?

I did my roof about a month ago. Used a 4" swath of contact cement around the perimeter. Got a crew together to help handle and stretch it down. We decided the glue would handle the shear load on it better than staples or nails. Next I screwed on the rain gutters. I was nervous about a big gooey mess so I did not use a sealant under the gutter strip. I think you can see the pictures on the last page of my thread called 'truck based woody'. You'll want to do this when it is really warm out.

The fabric stretches over the front header, side rails and the rear header over the lift gate first. You can use tacks or staples, Ford used tacks. The rain gutters, front trim piece are nailed over the tacks. Welting is used over the back of the roof over the lift gate. Last, the rubber inserts cover the nail heads. That's the way Ford did it, you don't need any contact cement or glue. I have driven my Woodie in lots of rain and the roof doesn't leak and I did not use any sealant.
