Grinding horn

I just picked up a Tudor, and one of the first things I want to fix is the horn. It sounds like a bunch of screws grinding in a coffee can. Where do I start? Just open it up and see what appears to be broken/worn? I see you can buy everything in the horn new, I'm just not sure what to start with.

As a related question, Some wiring is missing to lights, etc., where can one purchase the correct original wiring? I assume it was cloth insulated? Can anyone possibly point me to pictures of a restoration with routing of original wiring to lights, etc?

Before you start to dig into your car get some literature and an owners manual. Most repair and owners stuff is reproduced and reasonably priced. Bert's, Bratton's, Snyder's and many others have what you need in wiring and whatever else you will end up needing. Have fun with your car!

SteveR: welcome to the barn. Congrats on the Tudor. Fantastic choice. As figment stated, start with a little oil and adjustment. New wiring harnesses can be purchased from the vendors. Good Luck. Where do you live? You may have barners in your back yard that you didn't know about. All the best. Jeff

Re: Grinding horn

Oil the two felt blocks on the horn motor. Remove the cover and you can see them. Then, with the motor running at a moderate rpm, press the horn button. Adjust the sound with the screw on the back side of the horn. Replace the cover, then check the sound again. Do not over tighten the screw holding the cover on, as it will interfere with the correct sound.

Take it apart and see what the problem is.

You might try electric parts cleaner in a spray can. I just tried it on both my cars and the horns never sounded so good!
