Any ideas who might have rebuilt this coil?

1 Attachment(s)
I was sending some water pumps off to Skip Haney and thought that I would look at my coil to see about sending it at the same time. I took it off and it had three 6s around the bracket bolt hole. I talked to Skip and they were not his markings and he had no idea. He didn't think it was a good idea to send that one as he was not inclined to work on something that had already been done.

It looked to me like the coil has a newish cork gasket and non-original rivets and wire connection posts. It also had a crack in the side. I sent Skip a spare coil that I had for rebuilding, but was curious as to who, if anyone, might have rebuilt the coil that was on the truck? It generally starts right up and runs great, but I figured a coil redone by Skip is always a good idea.

Do those markings look familiar to anyone?

I'd be a little leery of a rebuilt coil marked with 666. (The sign of The Beast)

They don't appear to be remotely similar to Fleming nor that place that used to operate out of Michigan - M&S???

Since they are 6s it probably was Lucas.

They used to sell jars of "Genuine Lucas Electrical Smoke" on eBay. The problem was getting it back into the system.:D

Try turning the coil over and you will see those are 9s.

True, Frank. I had to pick one, so I picked the way it looked when the coil is as mounted in the car. I guess it will continue to be a conversation piece. The coil does work, though.

Maybe the coil is just a cheap reproduction part.

I bought a brand new Triumph 750 cc Bonneville in 1978 and 6 months later the entire Lucas electrical system burned out, and needed to be replaced.

It has a Ford script, so I think it is original. I don't think it's a Lucas.;)

There's the famous Lucas 3 position light switch, "Off - Dim - Flicker"

The Lucas company motto - "A hard day's work, and home before dark"

If it is 9-9-9 I wonder if it belonged to Herman Cain at one time ?

I've had three British motorcycles and I swear there were times when I was riding at night when I had to get off and strike a match to see if the headlight was on. Got tired of those and bought an American bike. I finally got smart and traded it, a "Hardly Ableson", in on a Honda never looked back.
