1941 ford parking lights passenger car
 

1941 ford passenger car. Does anyone off a reproduction that is set up for turn signals. The ones i have found so far are single element lamps . The ones on the car are booged up with mismatched dual sockets, one is shorted out and the other has a broken lens.

The previous owner replaced the sockets with something similar to these, also the glass front lenses are on eBay.

You are going to have to modify the lights yourself. I changed the original sockets with sockets that will accept directional bulbs from Ron Francis Wiring.

The parking light with turn signal wire harness from Mac's (picture) for 42 -48 Fords can be made to work very easily in the '41. It is the perfect length for the parking light lead to plug in the stock chassis wire harness. Of course you have to string the wires to hook to the second lead for the turn signal. I comes with the socket for a two element bulb. The socket is not an exact fit inside the lamp housing but I was able to wedge it into place with no cutting. Hope your lamp housing is not too messed up to do this.

While you are upgrading the lights, I highly recommend the LED tail/brake lights, as they are so much brighter than the stock incandescent bulbs. In the current world of Las Vegas tail lights, we are at a visibility disadvantage with safety implications.

You may be able to get new sockets at your neighborhood parts store. I have seen them on their electrical parts display.

If you go with LED's, you have to have a flasher that is compatible otherwise signal/brake light will not work

If you went to LEDs all around, the flasher can be an issue because the LEDs do not draw enough current for the flasher to work. With incandescent bulbs in the front, the regular flasher will work with LEDs in the back. That is the setup I have and the flasher works at a good flash interval.

Is the car positive earth? LEDs are polarity sensitive (as are electronic flasher cans) and will not work with positive earth unless you get ones specified to do so.

Negative 12v now. Car already was changed over with a GM alternator and turn signals. The wiring was hacked up bad and the previous owner started taking it apart to rewire it and then changed owners.
Beside the issues with the wiring its a decent solid driver. Has a fresh 50 merc motor with less then 1000 miles and a Mitchell overdrive.

in recent years i've notice that polarity sensitive bulbs, flasher, etc. have become less common and are being replaced in the market place, more and more, with solid state polarity INsensitive equivalents. ...a real convenience!
