Bad news, Good news

Bad news
I went to see a 1929 Tudor engine and trans. for sale can hear run.
It was in the car and started right up and was being used.
He was rodding the car ,the body was perfect, fender's great ,door's perfect.
was a low mileage car 30 to 40k ,motor number matched frame and title.
he had started to dismantle the car.

Good news
I bought the engine and transmission plus other parts he would not use.
But there goes another great car..

I have a friend who is going to chop 6" of of a '29 Tudor, that had never rusted one bit. It didn't sell on E-bay for $8,000.00, so he offered $6,000.00 and got it.

What i have a hard time understanding is, there's so many RODS and cutup bodys around already and really great repro all steel bodys why would anyone start up on a solid original ..unless they get it really cheap to start with. Guess not enough people looking for soild original cars and pay the price other then a rodder??? beats me.

Re: Bad news, Good news

although i'm building a banger i consider my self a "hot rodder" and i would much rather use a glass body for a hot rod. i'm beyond cutting/fixing rust buckets and wouldn't cut up a nice steel car.

Re: Bad news, Good news

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as they do it as a "period" hot rod (no chevy 350) I like them and if I was building one I would want to start with a nice body. :o

Good score roadster!!

Of course the it's-mine-and-I-can-do-what-I-want-with-it crowd will probably attack but in my opinion .... plain stupid!

To me, these are the same type guys who would cut up a fine piece of antique furniture and use the wood to repair the dog house ... or the same type who use mics for c-clamps ... or .. I could go on and on.

When I was 15 years old that what everbody that new me as, are you going to turn that into a hot rod. I 54 now they still ask me that and I keep telling them Henry built it right the first time so if its not broke why change it. Leave good things along.....

There were only so many made, only so many left, there will never be any more so we are responsible for preserving whatever we can.

Go drag some rusted out hulk out of some farm ditch and build your " %$#*&^" hot rods and leave the good cars to be restored. ORIGINAL.

That's how I built my AV8 roadster. I also have a stock 30 Tudor that I am keeping stock.

My guess is they are real good at math.............and know there will be far less money and time spent on the build than starting with a pile of crap.

Re: Bad news, Good news

Well, I am a Hot Rodder through and through. But I also have a very safe place for original stuff. Hot Rods are definantly cheaper and easier to make out of cherry originals, I have never bought a nice car to make a Hot Rod out of. I have never even bought a nice car, just ask the guys who know me. I always start with pieces. Some nice and some pure leftovers. I have fun with whatever I'm in wether it's mine or a friends restored expensive whatever. I will say there is nothing better than blasting past a V8 with 1/2 the cylinders. That right there is the very essence of Hot Rodding to me. I also understand the peace and fun that comes from 45 on back country roads. That's restoration to me. I'll take both.

I love mechanical things period. If I ever was lucky enough to find a nice car I certainly wouldn't make a Hot Rod out of it. But I don't begrudge a guy for spending his money how he wants to either. I'll gladly help anybody who wants to put a wrench on something and make it better (better is relative here). Restorers there were tons of A's built which you are so lovingly putting back to factory condition, and Hot Rodders are removing some of these very pieces which you so treasure. I think there is a way to meet in the middle just make sure that nothing is thrown away;).
