Hey John...this is what the Fulton Wind Wings look like mounted. I would say that you can get the location for the top bracket by placing the lower bracket in the door (with the garnish off) and seeing where the frame fits best.

Re: directions for wind wing installation 35/6 2 Attachment(s)
There are several styles of after market wind wings for the '35-36 Ford closed cars. I have a pair that were on my '36, they are the same as the ones that have been identified as being "Fulton" by Rusk in #2. They are pretty well a no brainer to install, the inner garnish molding does not have to be removed. Simple, carefully slide the wing into place so the stainless trim rests between the window anti rattle felt and the door, securely fitting to the front of the door, mark the screw holes and drill the correct size of hole in the door.
The wind wings I have, have not been on my car since 1952, don't like the looks of them.. |
Re: directions for wind wing installation 35/6 Specifically, I could use info on the wings made by the Dole Valve Co. They are the ones pictured in the 35/36 book in the Accessory section. The pivots are mounted separately on the glass and are not "framed" by metal in any way. There is an adjustment in the mechanism but , initial placement in the window hole is pure guesstimate. Also my set is NOT mounted on the glass so a picture is all I have to go by at present. MORE variables to confound and perplex!
I purchased that very pair from Rusk and after getting new glass made (twice) for the Fulton set, the Dole set appeared and I found it to be more appealing visually because of the minimal hardware. I'll get it done, but it will be a slow exercise, unless I can scare up some dealer install info. |
Re: directions for wind wing installation 35/6 2 Attachment(s)
This topic has been very informative, even tho it did not start out as such. I have never been much of a fan for the add on aftermarket wind deflectors, commonly referred to as wind wings.
Many years ago I saw a '36 3 win coupe that had a pair of wind wings similar to the one shown in the '35-36 Ford Book, part #48-18252, however the wind wing glass had been cut down to a oval shape eliminating the two rear square corners. I have attached a pix of the wind wing as shown in the '35-36 Ford Book. I have also attached a pix of the late '36 ww #68-18252 with the icky looking rubber insulating strip. I find it to be quite interesting that Ford did not utilize a built-in wind deflector in the front doors until 1940, the majority of the other manufactures did, however, Ford did have a feature wherein the glass rolled back a bout two inches before it went down. |
