Not Model A, but an old man needs help, Ryan..

We have talked some in the past about Computers. I hope Ryan lets this one fly for a little while.

Here's my "old man" issue.

I have a very long document in my Outlook email file that I want to copy and paste into WordPad. I have tried 2 Browsers with no luck. Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge.

Neither one will "paste" the highlighted Outlook email document to WordPad.

Any one have a simple way to do this that an old man can understand?

Thank you!

have you tried highlighting the text then right click and select copy or while highlighted press ctrl+c then in the document your creating push ctrl+v or right click and paste

if thats what your doing and its not working the text may be too long and try doing it in chunks.

you could also if it is an attachment to the email right click on the item and save as or look for a download attachment option around the item.

Is the document currently an attachment to an email?

Probably the wrong way, but I wrote my autobiography on my Outlook email because I did not know that Windows 10 comes with WordPad.

I thought I could just copy the email and distribute it to the Family.

Then I learned that WordPad is in Win 10, but can't copy and paste the email content to WordPad. Hence, the request..

Hell to get old..

So you've created an email and mailed it to yourself ...? If so, do some tests.

Do a copy and paste of a simple text email into Wordpad and see if it works.
I have Windows 7 and it works for me, that is, Outlook in a browser email to Wordpad.
-------
Display and copy your original email and see if you can paste it into all into a new email. (Test one thing at a time, just like fixing your A.)
If that works, on the new email look for the three dots at the top and click on that and do a "switch to plain text". Try copying and pasting this new email into Wordpad (just testing to see if there are some weird characters stopping the pasting)
-------

For some tips Google:
"cannot copy and paste email to wordpad"
"cannot copy and paste outlook email to wordpad"
or similar for some tips on others that have the same problem

See how you go.

Thank you. I copied a simple email into WordPad and it pasted. (How do I delete the WordPad entry?)

Then I tried to copy and paste a small section of my long email and it did not paste.

Another potential solution would be to download and install LibreOffice which is a full featured word processor/spreadsheet/etc/office suite. Free and quite powerful. https://www.libreoffice.org/

removed ...Suggestion did not work

Try removing any website address strings in your text.

I too am a big fan of LibreOffice. It is every bit as good as Microsoft Word...and free.

Hi-lite the text and backspace will delete it or close Wordpad. It won't hang around unless you save it.

>>Then I tried to copy and paste a small section of my long email and it did not paste.

Looks like there is more than text in the email like images etc. so it might be more than a simple program like Wordpad can handle. You might have to try something more heavy duty like LibreOffice as others have suggested.

PS. On Wordpad up the top left is "Paste" with a downward arrow. Click on the arrow and there is the option of "paste" or "paste special". Paste special can paste as unformated text but it might be ugly. That's about the limit of my knowledge of Wordpad.

I can sympathize with your problem I have been trying to post on the barn for several months with no luck I can only do it on my phone but the message I get in the message box says the message you have 100 is too short linked in your message to at least three characters. The message will show in the box what I have entered as well as pictures but when I go to preview them or post them that is the message I get it it's too short. Any help would be appreciated and thank you

Thank you Mike. Ken Byrne offered the same thing earlier by a private message. I will contact you if I still have problem later.

I do have a full blown Word program on my old XP confuser, but it won't accept emails. Might have to retype the long autobiography on the XP Word program..

Emails got blocked when I got a WIN 10. Anyone have ideas how to re-open the incoming email channel in my XP?

Thank you all!
