1933 clutch pedal adjustment

1 Attachment(s)
I am preparing to adjust the play on my clutch pedal. There is far too much play and that is probably why I have having problems down shifting.
The service manual says to remove the clevis pin, unless I am seeing thing wrong under the car there is also a pin with cotter pin on the other side of the clevis, which is much easier to get at. Is there a reason that the more easily reached pin cannot be removed to adjust the length of the clevis bar?

it doesn't really matter what side you take off as long as you can adjust the length of the rod and get it back on.

I had very heavy oil in the transmission but I am changing to gear oil 85W90.
When stepping down on the clutch pedal, how much should the pedal move?

Frank, go to Napa and get Sta-Lube 24238 gear oil, it is 140wt, you can put it in trans, and rear end.
This is the gallon jug number.

Look back a few months, there was a GOOD post on Gl 4 and GL5 oil for the transmission,
I had been using the wrong GL5 stuff in my 33,changed it to a castrol GL4 and it shifts way nicer now.

I can push my clutch pedal all the way to the floor. 1 in indeed? Could my clutch be that much out of adjustment or just bad?

Frank, do you have the correct clutch return spring? Pedal should move about a inch, before it starts to engage. Yes, it will go all the way to the floor.

Yes, I recently installed the correct NOS clutch and brake return springs.
I am drained the old gear oil and will buy some castrol GL4, what is the exact name of that stuff? is it castrol gear oil GL4...do I have to purchase this on line, something they usually don't carry in autozone type stores.

One inch free movement means you can depress the clutch pedal one
inch before the throw out bearing contacts the pressure plate fingers.

How do you measure that, just from the feel of it?
