'41 half-ton truck rim size?

We'll, I'm afraid I may have screwed up and bought the wrong wheels... I know they're supposed to be 16", but what width?

Are you going for 100% originally? Other wise the rim width is related to the tire width you are wanting to run.

Yes trying for "as-original-as-possible" when it comes to the drivetrain. Bought a set of late '41's that are 4" at the bead at Iola. Got home and was checking EFV8's "Two Great Trucks" and the author doesn't go into detail about rims, but the Ford promotional materials reprinted there list 6" tires as standard.

Depends what your doing with the truck, restoring or hot rodding. I used 15in on mine, big an little combo. 195/75 15 in front and 235/75 15 in back. Using original rear end and tranny
with 3;54 gears and a Mitchell overdrive.

Tires aren't usually described like that. For instance, a tire manufacturer may stipulate the use of a rim no less than 6"-wide. It's possible that the reference you noted above was for the tire TREAD width. The '40 and '41 Ford 16" wheels were 4"-wide as measured BETWEEN the two bead surfaces. DD

Ford advertisement on p. 25 states "Spare wheel and tire, equipped with a lock, are mounted on the right side of the body, above the running board. Five wheels and five 6.00-16, 4-ply tires are standard equipment on all 112 inch units."
This is what got me wondering.

V8COOPMAN has it right. The 1941 Sales Manual lists 16" x 4" wheels. Stu

6.00-16s WERE the standard tires issued on Fords with the 85 horse V8, all on 4"-wide wheels as late as '41. When the drop center shape changed slightly in '42, the 16" wheels went to 4-1/2" wide. DD

4"-4.5" you won't see a difference looking at them. If you want 5" then it's going to get pricey as hot rodders have driven the price up if you can find them.
