Generator modification I notice that many Model A Generators have been modified during being rebuilt. The stud in the case that attaches to the cut out relay is replaced by two wires. One for the cut out and the other to ground. Is there a reason this is done?

Re: Generator modification That is post Model A production, and through the years many people have mixed and matched parts from various years.

Re: Generator modification There was a regulater (oval cutout)that could be used in the later 30s cars with radio, the grounded wire is the field ground, hooked to the regulator the max charging rate coud be increased, then the regulator could cut the charge rate back when the battery was charged ----if the A generator was rebuilt by a Ford rebuilder in say 1936, and the fields were replaced the later style was used , a grommet with the wires replaced the stud---and many of the parts were mixed by rebuilders through the years too
