Looking for Better Hood Release Cable

1948 Tudor Sedan. Maybe 6-8 mos ago, I broke the OEM hood release cable. Just happened to find the "how to release broken cable ...." thread here and got the hood open. Installed a new universal (NAPA ??) cable. During my read of how to replace the broken cable, I also read a suggestion to install an emergency release cable. Got 'em both done and all was ok; until a few weeks ago when I started having a hard time with the release cable again. Used the emergency cable and opened the hood. Want to find a better solution for the replacement of the (regular) cable (emergency works fine). I'm thinking that the NAPA (?? cable) I used 6 mos ago may have stretched beyond the limit necessary to release. Any ideas or suggestions? Many thanks!!

Re: Looking for Better Hood Release Cable

I have never broken my cable, but when the car was being painted, the body shop closed the hood with no cable attached. Ever since then I carry a 1" x 12" x 1/8" piece of aluminum to slide between the hood and fender top to push on the release hook.
