Window glass
 

Hi guys,

Need to order the window glass for an early 1929 Tudor. Who is the best supplier ? What are the the requirements ?

Take the entire frame(s) to your local auto glass shop. He/she will remove the old glass, cut, fit and install new glass. All you have to do is pay the bill and install the frames with the new glass. Bingo, your done.

I think most of the typical vendors have glass for just about any window. But if you wanted to do it in your local area (The Netherlands) you should be able to find the specifics on requirements also maybe from one of the vendors.

I understand "frame" for the windshield
What would the others be? Only "frame" on the car
Am I confused????

To hazelhoff:
Make some plywood patterns/make sure they fit and work/
Take patterns to local shop and have cut

You have to remove the top plate, which is held in place by 3 or 4 screws. and they are often rusted in place, so it may take some heat and a good screwdriver. Then you have the door panel and inside window frame to remove.

As long as you are in there, you may as well lube up all the door latch moving parts, and replace any broken springs.

The windshield fits into a frame that must be disassembled to get the glass panel out. The glass is secured in the frame with setting or bedding tape all around the edges.
The other windows are mounted in a channel on the lower edge. The glass panel is secured in its channel with the same setting or bedding tape used on the windshield. It is only friction that holds the glass in the channel. It is the channel that attaches to the window regulator so that the window can move up and down.

At a glass shop, "I need 2 ordinary glass panels, 12" X 72" to protect my stained glass beside the front door"---"Law says that close to the door requires TEMPERED GLASS"---"BUT, that's EXPENSIVE"!!!---"Come back tomorrow with the dimensions & DON'T tell us where you're using it"----I GOT my glass!!

I needed a new windshield so I priced it at the local Radiator/auto glass shop. "Bring the frame and we'll do it, $150". Regular vendor $199 + Shipping + installation
