What colors were Ford dealerships painted in the 1920s? Hi all,
A friend of mine is a Ford dealer and looking to repaint his dealership (original building is 1920s) using historically accurate colors to the 1920s. His contacts at Ford HQ have gotten no answers and what few pictures there are black-and-white. I thought someone at here might know what colors were used... Thanks in advance. Cheers, Dan (former owner of 1930 Model A closed-cab pickup) |
Re: What colors were Ford dealerships painted in the 1920s? I once saw them strip paint from parts of a 1920's era Ford dealership in Southern California. The building had not been used as a Ford dealership since the 1950's and was being renovated for some non-automotive business. It was build in the California Mission style and every layer down to the stucco base was a tan color and the few Ford symbols uncovered were the typical blue Ford script on white oval.

Re: What colors were Ford dealerships painted in the 1920s? Our small town Dealership was not painted, built from Huge River Rocks with BLUE trim.
Building is still being used, in the mid '40s, Chief had a Conoco Fillin' Station, across the street, I wuz his Parts GOPHER! His Old school Buddy, Bill Ogan, owned it & Chief got a HUSKY discount! At one time, Chief worked part time for him. NOW, you ,know where I lurned a LOT of Model A stuff! Bill Ford--LOL |
Re: What colors were Ford dealerships painted in the 1920s? And here I was going to say black and white. [smiley face]

Re: What colors were Ford dealerships painted in the 1920s? Ford Dealerships (Agencies) were up to the individual Dealer or building owner. Ford did not begin to direct the dealers to "Follow the advice as to new construction or renovation", until 1929, then the information was directed by letter from Detroit to the Branches, and the Branch Manager in turn sent these directions to the dealers within his Branch. A lot of as was buildings stayed the same for many years... Hard question to answer for your friend...

Re: What colors were Ford dealerships painted in the 1920s? In my home town in SC, the Ford dealership, as well as the Chevy dealership, only two doors up, was on Main street, brick and glass windows on the front. Only vehicle access was from the rear, which was the service area. The Ford dealership maintained the name "McCormick Service Station" until it was destroyed by fire in 1970.

Re: What colors were Ford dealerships painted in the 1920s? The ones around here in California, SF Bay Area were painted Blue and white.
And some of the offices were hospital green.... |
Re: What colors were Ford dealerships painted in the 1920s? Thanks everyone. Much appreciated.

Re: What colors were Ford dealerships painted in the 1920s? During the late 1930-1950's, Ford Dealerships in and around Charlotte, N.C. were painted white with Ford Blue contrast.

Ford dealership in Pratt, Kansas. Was just like this in the early 50s except there were cars inside. There was an elevator to lift cars up to the 2 nd floor. They parked my 48 coupe in the upstairs window. After many clutch changes necessitated by drag racing I got tired of pulling the rear end and disconnecting the clam shell. I and took it to them and told them bill my dad. Bad decision. My dad refused to pay the bill and I walked to school and work for a number of weeks.
I sacked groceries in the store across the street for fifty cents an hour. I could see my car daily, waiting for me to pay bill. The pictures are screen shots from Google Earth. Notice the cast stone over the door that says FORD. The last photo was taken during WWII when it was Kurt Ford. Originally it was Scantlin Ford. |
