Model A Engine Numbee

My friend is doing a frame off restoration and has a unique engine number..."AX 3,4xx,xxx". The number on the block matches the number stamped on the chassis. Any info about "AX" would be much appreciated.

Here is what I could find quickly:
"Four experimental "AX" Prefix Engines, May 12-13, 1931"

Thanks for the prompt reply.

The production date for the AX 3,4xx,xxx is May 15,1930 - so apparently there may have been earlier experimental engines placed into service and data not captured. This is from a 1930 Tudor.

Could you be reading the wrong date on the car, then it fits exactly.

The engine number falls within the May 15 1930 daily production chart.

I had a frame with the "X" in the serial number but know nothing of the history of it.
