steering column throttle lever/ stiff I just bought a '29 open PU, and the throttle lever on the steering column is totally not moving. It is unhooked on the firewall side, so it is definitely a steering column issue.
I have shot it with WD-40 for a week now and tapped it with a rubber hammer...no improvement. The spark lever works fine, only the throttle lever is the problem. Any suggestions are welcome. thank you |
Re: steering column throttle lever/ stiff that is not an easy fix. the diecast bushing in the upper steering column has swelled from intergranular corrosion and is making the throttlle lever a very tight fit. The bushing will have to be replaced by removing the steering column and driving out the bushing and replacing it. Sorry.

Re: steering column throttle lever/ stiff Throw your WD-40 in the far back of the garage and get a real penetrating oil like Kroil, PB blaster, liquid wrench and try one of those. But yes th eupper bushing is whats swelled and stuck. Soak soak soak with legit penetrating oil for a week and it will move.

Re: steering column throttle lever/ stiff D. Is the steering wheel off? If so, oil and compressed air may help. Jeff

Re: steering column throttle lever/ stiff Also, if they have been re-plated, the plating should not go down into the bushing. It can be removed but only by first removing the rod.

Re: steering column throttle lever/ stiff thank you guys...WD has been chucked, now using PB blaster. Steering wheel is mounted, car is in use.
I will give it a week and report back...any other ideas? thanks all. |
