What is this all about?

Finding weird things in engines always amazes me. Not sure what this is all about but it was a fix for a problem of some sort. Wonder if it worked.

I may be mistaken, but looks like something to redirect oil flow.

How does the front main, the front cam journal and the timing gear get lubricated with the oil rerouted like this?

Isn't the oil going to flow over the dam at the same level with or without the added pipe?

It kinda looks like someone had an accessory oil filter installed......but later took it out and left the feed pipe..

They when through some trouble to drill the casting for that bolt!

That's exactly what it is....looks like a part from an aFORDable filter that was part of an aftermarket valve cover.

It also looks like someone might have installed rotators on the exhaust valves.

Either that or they found some mighty thick caps for the springs.

I was thinking the same thing on the rotators, in any event ditch the pipe.

As noted, are you running an oil filter?

Re: What is this all about?

There never was an oil filter installed on the engine.

I poured the mains 14 years ago but the rest was put together by someone else. I have no idea what the problem was that required this solution. I haven't taken it totally apart yet. I am curious about the front main. That area looks dry.

The rotators will be gone.

I think the rotator's are a good deal!....keeps the valves from sticking!
Loose the the brass pipe....that's WRONG!!

I believe the purpose of the rotators was to prevent the valve's from burning.

I agree!...
But with so many posts about the valves sticking it could be a good idea. I've
been thinking about the one piece(solid) guides and after installing them, putting K-line "liners", that are Brass or Bronze(can't remember which) in them. They are an excellent product and I've used them for years..with NO
problems..
