head studs

Just curious about how many of you use loctite or a dab of gasket sealer?

No sealer on mine. I used antiseize on mine the last time.

Nothing on mine but antiseize is a good idea if they break off.

If the stud hole goes through to water, you'll need thread sealer. Thread sealer with teflon will make it easier to remove later !

Re: head studs

I would not use Locktite.I have never heard of studs unscrewing themselves at the block. If one should break down the road, it would only make re-moveable more difficult than it already is. Permatex #2 sealer will coat the threads and deter rusting and getting tighter over time. Sealer of some kind is a must on the wet holes so coolant does not weep up the stud, through the bore in the head, to the nut. If antisieze is used, it is not a sealer, so Permatex is needed at the wet holes. The studs need not to be torqued to seat them in the block. Take them down to the stop and then back off 1/4 turn. Someday, you will be glad you did.
