Stromberg 97 Choke Screw Thread...

Does anyone know what thread the choke fulcrum screw is?

This is the large headed shouldered bolt that the choke linkage pivots on.

Mine has stripped I the carb top and I'd like to helicoil it.

Thanks.

I thought all the fixings were UNC?

I searched everywhere for helicoils for these damn things.
Finally ordered them from a company in France.

Not cheap.

have the same problem with the stripped thread in this are. Temp fix, benn there about 12months plus, secured with a twist of wire around screw and body to hold in place. Carb is chromed so ideally a helicoil fix would be the one.

I had the same issue and used this Loctite product and was happy with the result.

Why not send your carburetor top ( air horn ) to Charlie NY. He has repaired many stripped holes in carb tops for me.

Enbloc,
Over time I've sort developed a Stromberg rescue service at the request of
Nick, Max and others. For this repair I fixture the air horn and open up the stripped
12-28 to 5/16 -24 and thread in a brass bushing which I've already tapped a 12-28 thread into. This is a life time repair.
Removal of power valves, idle tubes, 'j' tubes etc etc USUALLY are no problem.

I can vouch for Charlie's work. I had a power valve that grew into the body. No amount of snake oil, heat, skinned knuckles could get it out. Charlie rigged it up, got it out with no worse for wear.

This sounds like a great fix but I'm in the UK so logistics and cost will out weigh me just using another top.

Enbloc,
I will bet you know someone with a lathe and a steady hand at a drill press
or mill (preferred) that can facilitate the repair described. "Don't never throw anything
away", to quote a fellow Barner.
