Who Needs a New 6 Volt Battery?

I just did a Google search for Fleet Farm 6 volt batteries, and they have a 640 CCA 6 volt for $54.99. This is the lowest price I've seen for some time.

This is what I have in my Studebaker, and it's over 13 years old, so I'll buy a new one.

Too bad that they are only available in select stores, it's a long way to the nearest one...

NAPA seems to be the lowest locally of the Internet "good reputation" batteries. Currently on sale at $81

Tractor Supply up the street sells Exide for $79 - but Exide is panned all over the 'net. Surprising for a company that Edison helped found.

Autozone has Duralast Group 1 6v for $94.99 but their vehicle search finder says it doesn't fit a Model A. So much for the information age.

Sams Club has a Duracell for $79.36

Advanced Auto has AutoCraft 6v for $105.49 but you can print a coupon for 20 percent off.

Autozone offers a 10% veterans discount. I didn't know about this until 3 years ago when the clerk asked if I was a vet.

Only 1,112 miles from me to the nearest store in Wisconsin.

I can get some squeeky cheese while I'm there.

Same prices here at Farm and Fleet, Moline, Ill. and also Farm King, Monmouth, Ill. Wonder why they are so much more expensive in other parts of the country?

For those that carry a AAA card, I'm pretty sure NAPA gives a 10% discount.

Worth knowing as NAPA seems the better buy - at least in our area.

Snopes says this is TRUE

Good to know about napa! I like thier Napa gold oil filters on my moderns. Also napa stocks the aftermarket fuel filter for the glass sediment bowl for our A's and 6v light bulbs.

It was called "monopolistic competition" in my economics class. Businesses compete with other businesses in the same area (such as a state or city) rather than nationwide. If they can get away with charging more in one area they will do so. It's the same reason why gas prices are higher near an interstate and lower as you drive away from a highly traveled area. Also the big gas companies compete against each other and not against Costco and Sam's Club.

Ever notice when you look up prices on the Internet for merchandise in brick & mortar stores like Costco or Sears they always ask for you zip code?

I don't shop on Amazon and other internet-only retailers so I don't know if their prices are the same across the county. Some of you may know.

Autozone Duralast....$60 My car is not fancy enough for a Optima. When a battery cost more than my rebuilt starter I draw the line.

Re: Who Needs a New 6 Volt Battery?

Today I went to the giant Le Sueur swap meet and the second thing I bought was this identical Fleet Farm battery for $25. No tax, no core needed, and it's only 17 months old, so that was a good deal.

I already installed it in my 1950 Studebaker because yesterday another brake line rusted through on my 1999 Olds, thanks to road salt. So now my Stude will have to be my daily driver until I fix that brake line.

I saw a 1928 Phaeton at the swap meet today. It was a nice older restoration and he was asking 16 K for it. The Le Sueur swap is huge, and some cars were parking a mile away. It's based on old tractors and stationary engines, but there's anything from antique wind chargers to bear rugs. I bought a mint pair of Model A king pins for $7 there, but this year I didn't find any 3X plugs. I only had 6 hours there, as I rode with a friend, so I didn't get all the rows covered.

Three days, two Model A's, two battery's from O'Reillys. One 16 months old the other only 9 months old. I'll be looking around next time.

Re: Who Needs a New 6 Volt Battery?

From a previous post:
Just bought a 6 volt battery from Batteries + Bulbs for $71.09 plus tax. This included a 10% off pick up in store discount and turn in battery core.
Specs:
Brand: Duracell Ultra
Voltage: 6
Format: BCI Group 1
Lead Acid Type: Starting
Cold Cranking Amps: 640
Battery Type: Basic
Chemistry: Lead Acid
Cranking Amps: 785
Not the cheapest but made by East Penn (Deka) which have a good reputation.
