How was the top bolt for the rear mounted spare Hi guys: I'm working on my 28 Sport Coupe with a rumble seat. How was the top bolt put into the spare wheel brkt. Was there a hole through the inner rumble seat panel? It looks impossible to put the bolt in from underneath.
Pictures would be good. Thanks: John Poole |

For a rumble seat car, the curved inner panel has a steel reinforcing part riveted to the sheetmetal panel to support the spare tire. The bolt for the spare tire bracket that goes into the large D nut on the top of the spare tire bracket and is installed from the top (inside). There is a hole for the bolt that passes through the steel bracket and sheetmetal inner panel, through the hole in the panel below the deck lid and into the large D nut. The attached picture show the inner panel and steel bracket, but I couldn't find a picture of the top side showing the bolt head.

Re: How was the top bolt for the rear mounted spare Thanks Rusty: That makes more sense. Another repro part that's half right. I'll have to look for an original inner panel for the rumble seat.

Re: How was the top bolt for the rear mounted spare The rear inner panel is different on the early 1928 rumble seat models. They did not have the brace like Rusty shows in his photos (and no square hole in the inner panel). The bolt only went through the outer curved panel and "T" shaped brace into the tire carrier. If you have Revision 4 to the Guidelines there are pictures of both types.
