Sedan converted to pickup ? Hey, has anyone head about, your have seen a Sedan converted to a pickup ? I was told in the 40's and 50's, they would buy a new ford and take the old one and covert it to a pickup . It would have the sedan back window and a home made box and tailgate.

Re: Sedan converted to pickup ? It was fairly common during the war, they could get more gas rationing stamps for a truck. I've never seen the pictures of the one my great-grandpa had, but I heard the stories about it,and I've seen several in later years.

Re: Sedan converted to pickup ? I had a 34 Plymouth somebody had done that to years ago, with a Dodge pickup box. It was going to need too much work, money, at the time so I sold it for what I had in it. It looked hokey, but it worked for somebody I suppose. Had suicide doors I thought was cool. But it wasn't a Model A.

Re: Sedan converted to pickup ? As a kid in the 50's it was very common to see coupes converted to pick ups in Northern Calif. but never has seen a sedan converted. could someone please post a picture of one? Thanks

Re: Sedan converted to pickup ? My God father had one back in the 60-70's. Got to ride in the bed several times when I was a kid. :) I think it might have been a cut down slant windshield.

Re: Sedan converted to pickup ? First A I bought was a conversion, did not know it till one of the club members pointed it out. All the body work was leaded. Looked pretty good.

Re: Sedan converted to pickup ? It was common in Australia, as a lot of cars were phaetons in the 20's. You would remove the rear panels from behind the front seat and then fashion a tray to suit your needs. It is still common to see these as restored utes at shows now. I don't know if it was to get more fuel during rationing or not.

Here's a thread discussing the sad end to the car from the film... beginning with a link to the auction flyer for the "sympathetically restored" Hudson Super-Six... I really got my fur up over this one... :/ http://forums.aaca.org/topic/142559-todays-wind-em-up/ |
Re: Sedan converted to pickup ? 5 Attachment(s)
I had one a few years ago. It was a fun beater.

Re: Sedan converted to pickup ? A nice thing about the sedan converted pickup is that it should have more room and comfort than the factory job.

Re: Sedan converted to pickup ? Not really, Tom. The bed is still in the same location, so you cannot sit back any further.

Re: Sedan converted to pickup ? 2 Attachment(s)
They also turned Coupes into Pickups. This is mine.

Re: Sedan converted to pickup ? 1 Attachment(s)
I have one that was hot rodded back in the 60's. I'm guessing prior to that it was a depression era gas ration job since it came out of rural Montana.
