What weight grease for rear end?
 

What weight grease for 40` rear end? I used a 600 weight for my Model A.

That will work. 600w is actually just a name and really 140w. I use it in the rear of all my classics.

You can go to any auto parts store and purchase SAE 85/140 type gear oil that will work just fine. GL-5 rated lubricants won't hurt anything in a rear axle. GL-4 rated lube would be required for the transmissions though. It has several phosphor bronze bushings that can be damaged by high EP content of GL-5.

The Model A was the last Ford vehicle that used any of the old 600W steam cylinder oil. All the later cars used SAE 80 or 90 depending on seasonal temperatures. Back then the GL-1 or GL-3 would have been the ratings for EP used.
