Pin striping
 

Good Morning Everyone,

Today I am going to have a go at pin striping my 1928 Standard Roadster. Does anyone know please of a good photograph or article show where the pin stripes should go?

It it's a success I will stripe my Tudor Sedan as well!

The MAFCA publishes a Paint and Finish Guide which give great advice and pictures about pin striping. Hope you have a steady hand. Good luck.

I painted my own stripes, and it was not difficult with practice. I use a MAC 00 brush and practice on the side glass of my wife's car. Lacquer thinner cleans it off nicely so she isn't looking through orange, apple green, or whatever color you choose.
As for where the stripes are, I googled your car and several good examples came up clearly showing the route. My one humble advice, do one half of the car and walk away for the day. I have found a mental rest really aids in consistent lines.

Stripers use a special brush that comes in several sizes or grades. Then use a special paint in very small cans called one shot with its compatible reducer. Also common is a cloth bag filled with talc powder so the hand slides easily on the car's painted surface.

I read that the BRUSHES are made with SQUIRRELS' HAIR???

I've used Finesse Pinstriping supplies in NY state.If you want to get a perfect line, they have stencils/ brushes in all sizes. You place the stencil tape down, say 3/32" or 1/8" for Model A, then peel off the top layer and with a striping brush, lay down the striping enamel.Then peel off the stencil layer before paint sets.The tape can work around curves as well. Pull the stencil back against the paint stripe, not across it. See example of car we recently completed.

Be sure the stripes are not too wide. Don't ask how I know.

I hope to see Jim sometime this summer. Luckily there is no need for an airline ticket here in CT. :D
