37 spark plug wire loom
 

I'm looking for a pair of 37 plug wire tubes. Is there any way to tell which year they came from, or which years they fit? Thanks Bruce

If you are interested in authenticity, then 37's are unique. The main difference being that the support arms are at right angle to the tube, (same as 32-36) where the 38 and later are parallel. The left tube is longer at the rear and cut straight off, the coil and generator wires (part of the wiring harness) insert here.

I have a pile of wire tubes from 32 to 48. If you can't find a set of 37's I can probably help.

I have these that came off my '37 engine I would be willing to let go of. They are a little denty, but I think they are fixable.

fordscript-- What do you mean "parallel" to the tube? Every conduit I have ever seen the support arms come out from the tube at 90 degrees. (like the pictures above)

Sorry for being a bit ambiguous, at the time I found it quite hard to come up with a more accurate description. On the pics of the (38 and later)above , you will see that the 'arms' are welded to the tubes 'flat'. On 37 and earlier tubes, the 'arms' are welded at 90 degrees to the tube. Opposite to what is shown in the pics. Hope this helps...I will see if I can get a photo.

Ok, I get it now. Yes, I know what you mean. I have a stock 33.

The LH conduit shown in the picture is definitely NOT a '37. The correct one will have four holes for the spark plug wires to exit, not three like the right one. Precisely, the left one is 24" long and the right one is 21 1/2" long. The LH will have the end cut off flush making the end the same diameter as the tube. The RH will have a compressed end....making it smaller than the tube diameter.

Correct '37's are a little difficult to come by. You may want to get a copy of the '37 Book from the Early Ford V8 Club of America or ask someone to make a copy of that section for you. If you would like to see some pictures or buy the correct ones, email me at [email protected]

Interesting. I wonder what happened to the stock ones. The rest of the motor was stock, although it did look like it had been rebuilt before. Sorry I couldn't help ya out.

Does anyone know if replacements for the aluminium anti-chafing inserts (where the plug wires exit these looms) are still available somewhere?

-Lots of them were bent, if not destroyed, when folks replaced the generator and tightened the belt. They were used as the base when prying the generator up during the tightening process.
-I don't know of anyone making the aluminum grommets.
-They are somewhat difficult to come by which is why the LH one can be expensive.
-If you know what to look for, they are easy to identify and can be found. I just found these when I looked around. (see pics)
-I forgot to mention that there were two types of LH conduits. The other one has a flared end rather than a flush cut end. (see pics)
-Notice the picture of the ones with the plug wires still in them. This is an original color coded set of wires. The end of the plug wires are numbered so factory workers could easily assemble them with the inner caps.
-There is also a picture of a single RH side.
