337 Flathead 3 Attachment(s)
Got some paint on the majority of the engine. Still have to do the goosenecks and the waterpump/crankshaft pulleys. Then as soon as I can get the oil pan off, I'll clean that and paint. Then what to put it in....

Pictures are upside down? Oh well.

Re: 337 Flathead Looks nice ! You better put it in something with strong front springs. I hear those babies weigh about 1000 Lbs.

Re: 337 Flathead My flathead knowledge is lacking compared to most on this board but I am well versed on the dark arts of technology. So perhaps I can shed some light on the mysteries of photos that auto-flip.
When most smart devices (phones, tablets, and even some nicer models of cameras) take photos they store information about how the device was oriented at the time the photo was taken (as well as lots of other information). To display the photo correctly the application needs to process these non-photographic "meta-tags". Unfortunately many applications either ignore, or mis-interpret this information and you end up with mis-oriented photos. Now back on topic -- I look forward to seeing some photos of the F-5, that's a project I'd love to take on if only I had the available parking in my driveway. |

Re: 337 Flathead Got the oil pan off yesterday, I was happily surprised there wasn't a lot of sludge. The engine had been rebuilt at one time, as there are numbers punched into the rods. Got some paint on the pan, pictures to follow. The sump is made of aluminum. Not sure if it's a replacement sump or not, but certainly strong!

Re: 337 Flathead Please educate my about that engine. What is a 337 out of and is the distributor at the rear standard?
|
Re: 337 Flathead The 337 was used in Lincolns from '49 thru '51, and also in heavy trucks with governor and special distributor. Yes, as far as I know, the distributors were in the back on all.
