1929 Closed Cab Pickup Roof Material

Could I ask, what is the correct roof covering material for my 1929 Closed Cab Pickup?

Lebaron Bonney offers T-65 long grain fabric in their kit.

Here is a link to a bunch of ccpu top pictures

I bought the fabric only from Bert's Model A......a full kit would probably have been more economical in the end....

The correct roof includes a layer of black duck cloth over the bows, then the padding, (only to the edges of the top, not down the sides) and then the top material which is long-short grain top material.

In post #3 Bill mentioned that the padding is only to go to the edge of the roof only and not down and over the sides. That is excellent advice as if you do put it over the edge the roof will look "poofy". I go one step farther and use a stiff brush and feather the edges of the padding down to zero at the edges of the top.
Be sure to fill any holes and gaps in your roof wood and sand it so it is very smooth as any imperfection will show through.
There is a pattern to the top material so make sure you get it on straight front to rear. When you go to put the top material on do it on a very warm and sunny day. Park the truck outside and lay the material out in the sun for a while to get it warmed up so it stretches better. You can and should pull on the material pretty darn good to stretch it tight.
Putting duct tape over all of your knuckles before you start will help them from getting rubbed raw from grabbing and pulling the material tight.
