shifting tough Lately mine has been hard to shift out of 2nd to 3rd and down shift to 2nd wants to grind a little even if I double clutch.Sometimes it will hardly shift out of 2nd to 3rd.No noises out of trans. Thanks

Re: shifting tough Could be worn sycronizers, have you checked the oil level?
|
Re: shifting tough Sounds like you've lost some of the adjustment and the clutch is not fully releasing , Check the split bushings in the equalizer shaft and ball .

Re: shifting tough I would start by checking the clutch adjustment. Pedal free play should be 1 1/2 to 2 inches. Is there any strange noises when you depress the clutch with the engine running? If a rubbing or bumping sound it could be the throw out (release) bearing. If that proves to be the problem it is time to pull the tranny (can of worms). While you have it out if the clutch and pressure plate have been in there awhile replace them also while you have it opened up. (Van Pelt has a complete clutch kit with bearings for under $200). You can then also open up the tranny and take a look at those syncro's.
In the process of doing all this myself. Enjoy the adventure/ |
Re: shifting tough I'll check adjustment but shift lever kinda locks up in 2nd trying to go to 3rd sometimes.Oil level is fine.Have to wait to work on this one when I finish the other one with a new wiring harness. They have to get in line for next one to be worked on Thanks

Re: shifting tough It sounds like you have excessive play in your linkage at the ends of the shift rods
|
Re: shifting tough All bushing are 3-4 yrs old but the linkage is a little loose on the trans pin sticking out of trans
|
Re: shifting tough Some of the later reproduction blocker rings in the synchronizer assembly were not made to the correct dimensions. Also, the bushing on the 2nd gear can wear to a point that it can get sloppy and cause it to shift funky.
Check all the easier stuff first as others have mentioned but a problem may be developing in there. |
Re: shifting tough Thanks
