Victor 800 vs. Victor 800C Head Gasket Question Hi everyone. This is my first post here on The Barn.
I recently picked up a couple of NOS Victor 800 head gaskets. They are of course the copper-clad asbestos-core type of gaskets. I did a search here on The Barn and found that "800 C" gaskets were mentioned a couple of times, but I couldn't find a reference to "800" (no C). The gaskets I picked up are clearly factory engraved with "Victor 800" and not "Victor 800 C". My question is, is there a difference between the "800" and "800 C" gaskets? |

Re: Victor 800 vs. Victor 800C Head Gasket Question Early copper clad Victor gaskets were all marked with 800 only. The 800C gasket is modern, although I do not know when they added the C. Dimensionally they are the same.

Below is the reply from Larry Brumfield: Quote. The 800 is an 800 C. 800 C is the part number. Why they didn't bother to stamp the gasket with a C, who knows? The C stands for copper-clad. Maybe they were like FEL-PRO. The FEL-PRO copper-clad gasket is stamped with FEL-PRO 7013 and no C but the part number is 7013 C. If the gaskets have not been used, the age doesn't really matter. I don't see how the asbestos could deteriorate. Maybe the copper is no longer as shiny as new but as long as it's not all corroded up, they should be fine. The last time I bought a new, Victor 800 head gasket was in 1985. They are really good gaskets unless your bore is 4 inches. I think .080 over would be the limit but a chamfer on the pistons may be enough to clear if the pistons didn't rise too high above the block at TDC on a 4 inch bore. End quote. |
