FOMOCO Designation On Parts
 

I know Fomoco simply stands for Ford Motor Company. Does a part with this
designation stamped on it mean it's an after market supplied part? Any other
info you might have to add will be appreciated.

Some may have had the mark and some may not have.
Suppose it,s whether Ford wanted to include it or not.
For example this is one on a '60's-'70's vintage motor mount.

Fomoco is again being used by Ford. Went to a camper show recently and a Ford Transit van conversion had "FoMoCo" under the hood on the decals and some parts. It had an engine from South Africa in it.

Ford originally began using the "FoMoCo" trademark in late 1948. DD

As I recall, the Transit is made in Turkey?! (Edit -- that's the Transit Connect)

My Transit Connect was assembled in Spain with engine and tranny made elsewhere but not South Africa.

Peter, if you are talking about new, reproduction parts, it means that part is officially licensed by the Ford motor Company. The Dennis Carpenter catalog has a page that has an explanation of it. Some years ago, Ford stopped the fabrication of all reproduction parts that had Ford script or the name Ford on them. Ford explained that it was "copyright infringement". Some Model A hubcaps were stamped "Fool" to bust Ford's chops. I don't know how much Carpenter or Drake pays for licensing fees.

Usually, the Ford licensing fee is 10% of the price.

Transit Connect is the small van, originally built in Turkey. The Transit is a full size van that has replaced the Econoline vans. The Rotunda was the equivalent to the Motorcraft later line of products. The dual part numbering system is still in use between Motorcraft and Ford parts, but has been scaled back somewhat on most of the Motorcraft stuff.

Not to hijack this thread, but when my wife bought her new 2015 Honda Crosstour , the window sticker said, 70% parts from North America, assembled in Ohio, engine made in USA. Other 30% parts??

On 11/20/1948, a U.S. federal trademark registration was filed for FOMOCO. This trademark is owned by Ford Motor Company,
One American Road
Dearborn, MI 48126. The USPTO has given the FOMOCO trademark serial number of 71569147.

Understand that the above (FoMoCo) has nothing to do with today's current crop of "licensed" reproduction parts. Today's "licensing" procedures enable Ford (and other manufacturers' legal teams) to recoup remunerative value (money) in return for using Ford's name in conjunction with a part manufactured (reproduced) and sold by "JOE BLOW". ALSO realize that Ford's "licensing" of a repro product doesn't even guarantee the quality of the engineering (safe to put on the road) that went into the repro part. Just remember one thing.....it's all about the "HEREAFTER"......it's the MONEY they're here after. DD
