31' Slant Window front windshield rubber install diagram
 

I have a 31' Town Sedan Slant Window Murray body. The previous owner painted over all of the rubber around the front windshield. I would like to order new rubber so I could use the window as intended by Henry.

I haven't been able to find a diagram or the like that would show me how the rubber is attached and where it is attached.

Anyone have a source for such a thing?

This is from memory about 18 years ago. Hope it helps you.

There is a channel on the window frame that you slide the rubber seal in on the sides and lower frame.

I cut the seal in three pieces using the removed seals as a starting length and add some so you have more than enough to miter the lower end of the side pieces and both ends of the seal for the lower fame.

Install the pieces and determine the correct length, remove cut to length and miter the corners. Once you have all three pieces cut to length and installed I used super glue to glue the mitered corners together.

I agree with the installation instructions above. That's what I did.

The one thing I would add is that the rubber pieces tend to stretch out a bit as you are sliding them through the channel in the windshield frame. I lubricated channel and rubber a bit to get it to slide easier. I forget what I used, but it was not oil based (like WD-40 or silicon spray). I think I used liquid dish soap diluted with water. Something that washes off when you're done.

I also let the rubber strips sit for a few days to shrink back to a relaxed (shorter) length before cutting the 45 degree angles at the corners. In fact, I kind of pushed some excess rubber into the channel ends to help it all relax back to original un-stretched length, then let it sit. Then the corners don't pull apart later as the rubber pieces become shorter.

Yes to Silicone Spray. On my 68C, which I believe, uses a standard windshield, it was totally intuitive and yes to silicone spray.

Also do the same on the top gasket. Make sure that it has "shrunk" so that you do no come up short. There is a right way and a wrong way to put it in. Only SW vehicles use that gasket for the top.

Yes!, let it sit a day before you do any cutting/trimming.
