Re: pickup box mounting thanks Rusty, yes i have purchased new blocks, i have never seen my truck together before so i was wondering do these wooden blocks attach to frame first or to extension on lower edge of box sides, none of the holes on new blocks align with anything that i have , these blocks were non existent in pile of crap i acquired , thanks again

Re: pickup box mounting 2 Attachment(s)
There are some recessed holes to attach the wood to the frame using heavy bolts. Actually there is supposed to be webbing between the wood and the frame. The webbing is supposed to eliminate squeaks. After the wood is bolted to the frame, the bed is set on the wood and 4 bolts on the outside are used to attach the bed to the wood and/or the frame. There are 2 bolts (one on each side) used to attach the bed via the Z bracket to the front of the frame. I am attach a couple picture that show the mock-up I did showing the bed sills fastened to the frame. The Z brackets are supposed to be riveted to the front of the bed, but I hadn't riveted the Z brackets to the bed yet when I took the pictures.

Re: pickup box mounting thats exactly what info i needed, so that little Z bracket ? how many and can i buy them ?

Re: pickup box mounting 1 Attachment(s)
All the vendors carry them, Bert's, Bratton's, etc. The repros are about $25 each. They are made very close to the originals. I am attaching a picture showing an original bracket riveted to the bed.

Re: pickup box mounting I don't believe you can bolt the wood to the frame, and then the bed on top.I think there's a couple of bolts that go through the bed,and bolt to the wood, with the nuts recessed up into the wood.At least two of them are over the joint of the rear crossmember/frame.I'm thinking I found this out in the 70's on my own truck,by doing just what you are doing. If you hold the new bed sill up in place,it will be clear. That skived out spot in the sill is to clear the joint and rivets where the rear crossmember mounts.

Re: pickup box mounting 1 Attachment(s)
When I took my bed off the wood rails stayed with the bed......Three bolts on each side and off it came....

Re: pickup box mounting Info like this has never been published in any of the Model A repair manuals and there has never been a good book printed on restoring CC Pick-uo trucks. Perhaps someone would be interested in that endeavor ?

Re: pickup box mounting Because I've only owned my 30/31 truck for just over a year and I want to enjoy driving it first I may be the one that will actually do a book on complete breakdown and repair and restoration with line by line instructions and clear photographs..THAT'S PIC'S to the young folks..
I'm No Authority but I'm very detailed |

Re: pickup box mounting It's just not right! How can one person be lucky enough to look like that and have the gift to sing like that. Did anybody hear a peep from the audience?

With a voice like that I'm surprised I never heard of her until just 6 weeks ago when one of our Model A club members forwarded Sissel singing Auld Lang Syne. What an incredible voice. I need to record several of her songs off You Tube to have some traveling music. Here's a link to another of her great songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uK3_Kr2nLtA |
