Re: Turlock

Dennis,
Didn't you go to the meet? I got some information about it from Dudley and Tom Moniz. Tom found some treasures and so did Dudley. Since I live in the frozen tundra of Minnesota, I have never been to Turlock, but I have heard it is a good meet.

Re: Turlock

I noticed alot of people saturday. Sunday just a few, but dedicated lookers.
Several mentioned they only found a few model a parts. Brisk 34 degrees until the sun came out both mornings. Not any takers for my hot links. Guess I will switch to Lockford sausage next year. Saw several fordbarn guys, and cringe at some of the news. Several new owners had questions I thought I adequately answered. At least made them aware of sources of information.

X2...I've been going since about 1986. The largest number of sellers (and buyers) I can remember. Lots of Model A parts. The usual Model A commercial and semi commercial vendors and lots of guys cleaning out their garages of Model A parts with give away prices.

Beautiful day to boot!

Ron was in his usual spot with help from his son. He had the usual array of Zeniths and early parts.

Ouch. Doesn't Brookville Roadster or one of those aftermarket companies(Dynacorn?) make the '32 three window now?? I'd think most guys would go that route faced with $45K for a rotted out body.

I saw a '31 Sport Coupe fresh from the farm. Pickup bed conversion in the trunk area. It had a sidemount. Minor rust but really shabby looking. He was asking $4,300.00

Those are things you wait till the final hour and offer $2000 in cash and see what happens:ponce the realization it may be months of storage before they can get to another show or dealing with craigslist tire kickers they wanna run from what they thought was quick money situation they got themselves into.

Here's a pic of the car I took. I don't know if your description of rusted out is accurate.

Someone however got a steal on a 1939 Lincoln Zephyr Rare Tudor sedan. Beautiful car and driven 125 miles to the meet.

old/slow, so 10hrs of walking netted me a nos antique fishing net for $4. and a picture of an alum Super Winfield....for....$950 . I told the two gentlemen that I'd sell them my exact same Winfield for $650 , so that they would have a 'cheap' extra. When asked WHY priced like gold, they said that that kind of equipment is scarce where they come from. I almost bought their copy to get them $ to drive the 2200 miles home:D !!

Only got thru half of the total territory, but met and bs with lots of old acquaintances.

that's half the fun of any swap meet is meeting people, although I am terrible with names...

Of course you are correct, but when traveling a long way to 'find' something useful/good, being gregarious for a considerable amount of time gets expensive. Even though this is our 'fun', don't know whether I'll go back to this venue, partly because there are several large meets much closer. I spoke to a number of vendors. They told me that after setting up early, they shop and get everything they want/need...before the hoards are allowed in..hm. Guess it's the same every meet, eh ? Still FUN and got some pics of rare parts, that although wanted, were not for sale. Example: pair of side draft Riley carbs....slobber :) ! Best idea of entire process, was our discussion about making a first trip to Hershey:eek: !!
