Door switch delete on '59 Custom Fordor 1 Attachment(s)
For cars that were not equipped with the optional (?) door switch to automatically turn on/off the courtesy light, was there a rubber delete plug the cover the hole ? (see yellow arrow in the attached photo). The car on the left (my Dad's) seems to have had such a cover; the one on the right (mine) does not.
If they exist, where can I obtain a pair? |
Re: Door switch delete on '59 Custom Fordor My '61 Fairlane is a switch delete and it did not have a plug there, just the same type of hole as your '59.
I've heard of them possibly having plugs but I'm 99.9% sure my car never had one. My car was untouched when I bought it and they are missing on both sides. |
Re: Door switch delete on '59 Custom Fordor You might try measuring the size of the hole then trying one of those rubber body plugs. Different sized plugs are available from all the normal suppliers. Dennis Carpenter, Macs and others.

Re: Door switch delete on '59 Custom Fordor Many home hardware stores have: rubber plugs, caps, specialty nuts, threaded inserts and misc handy do-dads on the aisle with drawer pulls and cabinet handles.

Re: Door switch delete on '59 Custom Fordor I got some plugs from NAPA. They had a large selection of plugs. They had plastic, rubber and even some chrome plugs.

Re: Door switch delete on '59 Custom Fordor I have never seen one plugged before. Even the lowly Custom 300 had the switches on both sides. You could try to see if Steele Rubber makes one, plug in what car you have and it generates a list. Any standard body plug will work once you know the size.

Re: Door switch delete on '59 Custom Fordor 1 Attachment(s)
Interesting. If door switches were standard on the Custom, then maybe what I'm (barely) seeing in the B & W photo is the switch.
- Would it have looked like in the attached photo ? - Would the Fordor have had it on the back doors as well ? If mine were removed for repaint, then I would think the wires are still in there somewhere. If not, what additional wiring / hardware / dis & re-assembly would I need to get it working ? Thanks |

I've seen photos of the rubber plugs. Here are a couple examples:
