31 A SW Town Sedan Door outside handles For those of you out there with four door vehicles, have you install a locking handle on each of the four doors? If you only use the locking handle on the on the driver's front door, how do you lock the other three doors?
Thanks, |
Re: 31 A SW Town Sedan Door outside handles You lif he inside door handle.
Sorry he does no work |
Re: 31 A SW Town Sedan Door outside handles My guess is you could make a locking handle for the driver side rear door. Or should I say take a front passenger door lock and move it to the driver rear door.
The design is too different to allow for keys on the other doors. |
Re: 31 A SW Town Sedan Door outside handles I just have the two out door locks

Re: 31 A SW Town Sedan Door outside handles My Canadian early 31 Murray body fordor, only has a key lock on the front passenger door.
All the other doors have the inside lock controls. The reason for the passenger side lock was for safety. Not standing on the traffic side of the car to unlock and let passengers in. Jeff |
Re: 31 A SW Town Sedan Door outside handles As 160 B and others correctly state, only the front passenger door has a key. The lock mechanism in the other 3 doors (at the handle) has a spring. (see Brattons catalogue or the service bulletins for the orientation ). I had to replace all 3 springs after purchasing the car which was quite a job, so do it while your upholst., etc. is out. Also, the vendors have had some profile and ductile issues with the quality of the "s" shaped springs, so query them about what they have. There are some helpful posts about this on the Barn from others.

Re: 31 A SW Town Sedan Door outside handles There are some cities and states that still prohibit the exiting of a vehicle on the drivers side into traffic on the books.

Re: 31 A SW Town Sedan Door outside handles on the SW bodies the original right front door latch assemble is different than all the other lathes. and the original right front door remote has a stop on it, that will NOT let you lock the door on the inside. all the other doors lock from the inside.

Re: 31 A SW Town Sedan Door outside handles jw hash - how then do you lock the passenger side door when driving? I like to have the doors locked from a safety standpoint. Seems odd to have to stick the key in from the outside to lock the door.

Re: 31 A SW Town Sedan Door outside handles You unlock the door, open it, reach over and unlock the driver door, then re-lock the passenger door. It remains locked when closed.

Re: 31 A SW Town Sedan Door outside handles abachman not quite. the inside right front door remote has a little dog or stop that will not let you lock that door inside. on my Victoria and for other that want to lock that door on the inside. I cut the stop off when rebuilding the latch and remote. also while we are talking the remotes no one and I mean no one that I can find makes the correct spring for the remote. and NOS ones are getting pretty hard to come by.

Re: 31 A SW Town Sedan Door outside handles Snyder's had a couple of batch runs, some worked Ok, others, the profiles were off and seemed brittle. (post 7)

Re: 31 A SW Town Sedan Door outside handles Bratton`s has the correct profile but there is NO spring in the metal. Snider`s the profile is not correct. I`m willing to pay good money for the correct springs. if someone out there has found a vender that sells the correct springs. please let me know.
