Headlight guards

Just a thought, I`ve not seen a Model A with headlight grills/stone guards. Bearing in mind radiator grills were often fitted to protect the rad, were the headlights not likely to get broken/cracked ?, as I said just a thought ...............

These have to be removed if driving at night or in instances where headlights are required during daytime (like they are here on the highways).

Have to admit to having one on my Harley, was there when I got it, don`t have to be removed, can remain on there.

The poster is asking about a stone guard for the headlight while Carl your thinking of the leather protectors while transporting it on a trailer. Least i think so...

It wouldnt take much to make some - mounting them will be interesting...maybe the same thin clips used to hold the radiator guard on to snap onto the headlight rings? Possibly permanently modify a set of headlight rings using computer standoffs as you want them mounted off the headlight?

Or for temporary things make the ring with mesh in it, then use tall rubber bumpers to have it rest on the glass then use those small bungiee cords wrapped around the headlight to hold them up.... Im just throwing ideas out into the wind and giving myself ideas (bad idea haha)

For the size of them and the fact the headlights kind of stand out in the wind ive had modern 4x6 sealed beams on my s10 get broken from highway rocks...:mad: have had several good sized rocks deflected off the front edge of my hood and over the windshield, had one get kicked up from a semi coming towards me , saw it bounce and then came right at the windshield and cracked it...this was all on paved roads or interstates.

The headlights on the Model A I use when touring outback wear protectors ;)always during daylight hours. Whether they have saved a lens, I'll never know but I do know I have never broken one and I've copped some decent stones. One even left a dent in the radiator shell. Others have chipped the windscreen.
The car runs a radiator screen too.

A few years ago a kangaroo from a zoo in Germany got loose and headed straight to the Autobarn.

Carl---When we drove the Alcan Hiway from California in to Anchorage in 1969, it was still unpaved, and most of us used clear plastic covers that fit over the headlights. The bigger problem was windshields, as many were broken by trucks throwing up rocks behind them. In the summer in Anchorage, you could always easily identify the cars that had just made the trip......
