Lead in Gasoline I just read through this timeline about the history of lead was surprised at how early the concern was about lead being a poison.

Re: Lead in Gasoline Tom, this is a very interesting and informative list of events. 1916 stands out a tad for me.

Re: Lead in Gasoline Asbestos story is similar in that the very keen "business" minded heads of Life Insurance Company's in the early 1900's refused to sell policies to asbestos workers.

Re: Lead in Gasoline I was surprised at how much lead was and still is used. In garden hoses made prior to 2007? Who knew? Of course, it was in high percentages of the brass in faucet fixtures up until not too long ago. Remarkable. You can see from this piece how long it has been known to cause health problems.
When I worked at a GM plant once, there was a guy who had worked in the lead booth grinding off excess lead where they had leaded over the seam to put the roof on the cars. He had a leak in his air hose to the suit that he wore and he got lead poisoning. He looked awful, but had been put on a light duty job. BTW, I was a janitor and sometimes had to go clean up the lead dust in the lead booth. I don't recall that I was given a respirator, but hopefully I was. This was around 1971. |
Re: Lead in Gasoline Good stuff. We have known about lead for a long time. Did I bite those little lead sinkers onto the fishin line..yep.
